Ron Estes — Republican Candidate for U.S. House in Kansas, 2026
Last updated: March 4, 2026
Ron's Positions on Key Issues
Economy
HighRon Estes voted for the 2025 budget resolution to extend the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, aiming to prevent tax hikes and make economic growth provisions permanent. He supported the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, stating it would foster economic and job growth for families and businesses. Estes voted for the $900 billion COVID relief package but opposed the $1.9 trillion ARPA bill, maintaining a position against certain federal spending for economic growth. He also advocates for a simplified tax code.
““Voting yes means voting for a secure border and economic growth,” said Rep. Estes. “By voting yes, we’re voting for a path to make the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. It means making economic growth provisions like research and development, [...] the small business pass-through, interest deductibility and immediate expensing permanent parts of our tax code. A yes vote prevents the largest tax increase for Americans in history.” (Ron Estes, Remarks during House debate, April 9, 2025, as reported by estes.house.gov)”
Immigration
HighRon Estes supports securing borders, building a wall, and closing immigration loopholes. He supported the Secure the Border Act and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which requires proof of citizenship for voter registration. He opposes legislation that provides amnesty or a special path to citizenship, emphasizing the rule of law and the need to fix the immigration system. He also criticizes sanctuary cities for not cooperating with federal enforcement.
“I have supported common-sense measures to fix our broken immigration system, secure our borders, build a wall, close immigration loopholes and provide stability to DACA recipients without providing amnesty or incentivizing anyone to break the law. While today’s bill addressed some of those pillars, I ultimately could not support a bill which provides amnesty and a special path to citizenship to those in our country illegally. We must fix our broken immigration system with compassion and by supporting the rule of law. While Democrats refuse to offer any solutions, I will continue working with President Trump and my colleagues to fix our immigration system and stop families from being separated at the border." — Ron Estes, Congressman Estes Releases Statement on Immigration Vote, June 27, 2018”
Healthcare
HighRon Estes voted in favor of H.R. 6703, the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act, to reduce health care premiums. He also introduced H.R. 7520 to delay efficiency adjustments in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. Estes supported $222 million for rural health care, emphasizing that zip code should not determine access to quality care. He questioned health insurance CEOs on affordability, citing high premium increases and limited local options.
““As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee I was proud to be involved in the conversations that led to including these investments into the One Big Beautiful Bill, and I’m thrilled to see this funding being given to rural health care nationwide, and particularly the $222 million being given to Kansas,” Congressman Estes said. “Rural health care is one of the largest challenges that Kansas faces, and this investment will make a significant difference across the board. Your zip code should never determine your access to reliable and quality health care. I’m pleased to see this historic initiative and look forward to seeing the differences that these funds make in Kansas.” – Congressman Ron Estes, December 30, 2025, from estes.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=7299”
Climate & Energy
HighRon Estes voted "Yea" on H.R. 4626, the "Don’t Mess With My Home Appliances Act," which seeks to prohibit new energy conservation standards unless technologically feasible and economically justified. He also supported legislation (H.R. 4758) to repeal taxpayer subsidies for home electrification. Estes issued a statement supporting the removal of the lesser prairie-chicken from the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife, expressing that this decision benefits Kansas farmers and ranchers who are stewards of the land.
“Today is a massive win for common sense, for Kansas, for the hardworking farmers and ranchers who have been the true stewards of our land.”
Abortion & Reproductive Rights
MediumRon Estes has consistently voted against measures that would expand abortion access. He voted 'Yes' on the 'Pregnant Students' Rights Act' on January 22, 2026. The League of Conservation Voters assigns him a 23% score on restoring abortion access, indicating a position against such restoration.
Foreign Policy
HighRon Estes voted in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023. He also supported the ROTOR Act, a piece of aviation safety legislation. Estes has stated that Republicans have united to "put America First, leading with results" and expressed optimism about accomplishments in Congress and the administration.
“Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kansas) released the following statement following President Trump’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night: “Throughout the course of the last year, Republicans have united to put America First, leading with results both in the administration and here in Congress. The President is right to be optimistic – we have accomplished a great deal, but there is still more work to be...” (Source: estes.house.gov/news/, February 25, 2026)”
Education
HighRon Estes prioritizes education as an important area for Congress to address. He reintroduced the Ensuring Seniors’ Access to Quality Care Act (H.R. 7314), a bill designed to allow nursing homes to continue operating in-house Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training programs. This legislation aims to address workforce challenges and maintain necessary staffing levels for quality care by preventing program suspension due to non-care related clerical violations.
““This common sense, bipartisan bill accounts for the current workforce challenges nursing homes face without compromising on a commitment to quality care for residents.” said Rep. Estes. “This bill ensures nursing homes continue to meet high standards without losing the staffing levels needed to provide high-quality care.””
Gun Policy
HighRon Estes voted against H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, and H.R. 1112, the Enhanced Background Checks Bill of 2019, citing concerns that they would infringe on Second Amendment rights. He stated that these bills would not address the root causes of gun violence and would lead to government overreach. He affirms his commitment to defending Second Amendment rights for Kansans and co-sponsored the Mass Violence Protection Act of 2019 to keep guns from criminals.
“"H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112 are a combined effort to infringe on law-abiding citizens' Second Amendment rights and will do nothing to address the root causes of gun violence like theft of firearms, straw purchases or the underground market," said Rep. Estes. "These bills would expand the required days to wait for a background check and require every transfer of a firearm go through a government agency, including lending a gun to a friend to shoot trap or to a domestic abuse victim to protect themselves. Instead of protecting victims, this legislation would turn innocent citizens into felons and lead to pointless delays and government overreach for law-abiding citizens seeking to exercise their Second Amendment rights."
